METHODS
1. Planning field work and mapping:
Planning of field work, as well as creation of a database on the quantity
of Persian Sunwatcher Lizard and its habitat conditions will be realized
with the use of a digital topographic map 1: 25 000 and software ESRI
Arc View GIS 3.2.a. The solution of mapping problems will be dealt with
by the main researcher of the project and an expert with an adequate education
and level of specialisation. For the realization of this stage of the
project there will be used the following equipment provided by the CENS:
Computer Pentium 4 with accessories, GPS Garmin E-trex with accessories,
Software: ESRI GIS Arc View GIS 3.2.a. (Licensed).
A CD recorder for saving large DB out of computer, and a printer HP Laserjet
1000 to prepare hard copies of papers and reports have to be purchased.
2. Field work:
2.1 Collection of field data will be performed by means of visual calculations
on accidental randomised samples of transects with a length of 100 m,
which will be situated within the bounds of morphologically separable
microhabitats [7].
2.2 The randomisation of the sample will be performed before the beginning
of the field season with the use of GIS and a program synthesizing casual
numbers [7]. The data received with the
help of the computer on the positions of all line transects of the sample
will be loaded into GPS Garmin E-trex navigator which will be used for
the search and identification of trial arias in the field.
2.3 The calculation of the quantity of Persian sunwatcher lizard will
be made using the method of sample retirement [7]
.
2.4 Measurement of projective cover of vegetation to the south and north
from the points of capturing lizards will be performed using standard
methods [3].
2.5 Distances to irrigated lands, highways and areas where heavy technics
are used will be delineated using GIS.
2.6 Slope esposure and steepness will be measured by standard methods
[7,15,23]
2.7 Samples for assessment of mechanical composition of the ground at
a depth to 1 m will be taken by the method of cross-section [13].
2.8 2 persons will participate in field work. The main expert of the project
will perform all the necessary assesements, whereas the field assistant
will record collected data and give technical assistance [7].
For the realisation of this stage of the project the following equipment
will be provided by CENS: tent for two persons, 2 sleeping bags, a gas
bottle, rabblers, a string and pegs for transect marking, a compass, a
theodolit, and other equipment mentioned above in point 1 of the Research
menthods. Vehicle will be rented.
3. Laboratory works
3.1 Macroagregate soil analysis will be performed by Sawwinov's method
[13] in the laboratory of CENS.
For the realisation of this stage of the project technical scales will
be provided by CENS, whereas a Coarse Sieve Shaker ISO 9000, 220VAC, 50Hz
has to be purchased from «Cole-Parmer»(see project budget)
[8].
4. Statistical analysis
The revelation of the dependance of the abundance of Persian Sunwatcher
Lizard on the main factors of environment will be performed using the
methods of monofactoral and multifactoral analysis using software Statistica
6.0.[10]. Statistical analysis will be
implemented by the principal investigator of the project. Statistica 6.0
licensed software will be provided by CENS.
